NanoImaging Services (NIS) provides cryo-electron microscopy and related scientific services to life sciences clients, including pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The company operates lab facilities in San Diego, CA and Woburn, MA, supporting high-throughput structural biology workflows for external clients.
The CryoEM Manager, Lab Operations will lead and manage the San Diego Lab Ops team, overseeing daily operations, project scheduling, staffing, and GMP compliance. This role reports to the VP of Operations.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the San Diego Lab Operations team
- Allocate team resources to meet project deadlines and quality standards
- Maintain and prioritize project schedules for San Diego microscopes
- Coordinate with ThermoFisher and NIS Service teams to schedule instrument downtime and project adjustments
- Coordinate with the Commercial and Service teams to improve processes and communication
- Prepare, monitor, and oversee the Lab Ops portion of client visits; support client calls as needed
- Arrange and conduct onboarding and training for new and existing team members
- Coordinate project handoffs and scheduling with the Woburn Lab Ops team
- Optimize workflow within Lab Ops and across departments
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry for experiments, projects, and sample information
- Monitor and maintain lab spaces, client samples, and lab supplies
- Assist with quality audits and document Lab Ops procedures
- Ensure GMP and GLP compliance across all project work and procedures
- Support NETTE (NIS internal LIMS system) releases through approvals, reviews, functional testing, and training
- Maintain audit-readiness of GMP labs
- PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience, or BS/MS with 5+ years of relevant experience
- 5 or more years in a life science, technology, or related field
- Experience managing a scientific lab
- Strong skills in team leadership, mentoring, organization, and teaching
- Comfort handling technically advanced and sensitive equipment
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to change
