Scientific Software Developer/Engineer (Full Time - San Diego, CA)

NanoImaging Services, Inc. (NIS) is an industry leader providing structural analysis and characterization of biopharmaceuticals using electron microscopy and advanced image processing. We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, innovative software developer interested in a dynamic commercial environment to join our talented team in San Diego, California.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing, maintaining and debugging our Linux/Unix scientific software stack
  • Interfacing with the scientific team to improve or develop new interactive software tools
  • Developing database applications to organize, record, and track operation workflows
  • Building and improving software to run scientific instrumentation and analyses
  • Design and construction of systems for automated science and business report generation

 

A successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, related scientific or engineering discipline and 3+ years programming and software engineering experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
  • Interest in data and image processing in biology or other scientific fields
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in software engineering development principles and architecture, with strong experience in Linux/Unix software development; some familiarity with systems administration is desirable
  • Strong programming skills using high level languages; preferred programming in: Python, PHP, BASH, SQL, Django, Bootstrap, Javascript, HTML, and Web Dev
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated experience presenting your work and projects, writing technical reports, and documenting code in a manner that is understandable to other technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and independent problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with design and maintenance of modular software packages
  • User level knowledge of Mac OS X, Unix/Linux, data warehousing
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Electron Microscopist (Full Time - San Diego, CA)

NanoImaging Services, Inc. (NIS) is an industry leader in providing structural analysis and characterization of biopharmaceuticals using transmission electron microscopy (negative stain TEM and cryoTEM) and advanced image processing. We are seeking an energetic, innovative, and detail-oriented individual to join our talented team in this exciting and rapidly expanding field of research at our client facilities located in San Diego, California.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing samples for imaging in an electron microscope
  • Troubleshooting and optimization of problematic samples for EM
  • Receiving and intaking client samples 
  • Collecting data on an electron microscope using a highly automated data acquisition pipeline
  • Evaluating data/digital electron micrographs as they are collected to ensure high quality and that client specifications are met
  • Analyzing and solving problems with the microscopes efficiently and quickly to ensure minimal down time
  • Closely collaborating with other team members to ensure that projects are completed within demanding deadlines and to the highest quality possible
  • Maintaining accurate records and performing data entry of experiments, projects, and other sample related information.
  • Organizing, monitoring and maintaining lab spaces and equipment, including client samples, general lab supplies, and microscopy specific lab supplies
  • Occasional data collection on weekends and remote monitoring of data collection during off hours
  • Assisting in onboarding of new team members


A successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering or a related area in life sciences
  • At least one year of laboratory experience
  • An interest in imaging and structural characterization of biological nanoparticles
  • Be comfortable handling technically advanced and sensitive equipment
  • Be comfortable carrying out complicated assignments and working with delicate materials
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new operating systems and advanced software
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly and adapt to changes
  • Be self-motivated and have excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Be able to follow verbal and written instructions with careful attention to detail


The following qualifications would be considered a plus:

  • Previous experience in investigating biological specimens, particularly small particle analysis
  • Previous experience in operating highly technical scientific instruments
  • Previous experience in the preparation of negatively stained and/or vitrified specimen grids for TEM
  • Experience in crystallography, transmission electron microscopy or light microscopy

​Technical Account Manager - Structural Biology

Do you have a passion for patients, people and proteins? We’re seeking Technical Account Managers to work closely with our growing client base, building relationships with them to help them achieve their goals and overcome challenges associated with cryoEM exploration and adoption.


Working in collaboration with members of the commercial, science and operations teams, the Technical Account Manager will develop a robust account service strategy focused on protein structure determination for Pharma and Biotech accounts.


Location: US based (remote). Preference will be given to candidates residing in/near Boston-Cambridge, Bay Area, or San Diego.  

Candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.


You will:

  • Drive sales growth with an emphasis on development of accounts to meet or exceed revenue goals
  • Build strong customer relationships emphasizing client success outcomes in collaboration with science and operations teams
  • Work together with clients and the NIS team to translate client needs into service deliverables and revenue
  • Make sure all deliverables arrive on time, and fulfill customers’ requirements
  • Communicate the progress to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Take initiatives in identifying growth opportunities, supporting upstream and downstream sales and marketing efforts
  • Collaborate with our team to achieve sustainable growth
  • Provide regular reports on customer satisfaction, and communicate successes, failures, best practices, etc, to improve the overall services offering
  • Complete and submit sales reports and documentation in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Present sales and technical seminars in person, via telephone or web conference
  • Represent NIS at tradeshows/exhibitions and other "on-site" events in order to promote current and future services, receive feedback, network with customers and prospective clients.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology or other relevant subject; Experience in crystallography and/or drug discovery preferred
  • 2+ years of technical sales or account management experience in a relevant industry; application experience with motivation to sales will be considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication; Ability to provide information back to customers in a helpful, courteous, positive and professional manner
  • Exceptional organization skills
  • A clear and persuasive communication style
  • Personal fit to the company culture – passionate, proactive and self-managed, driven by quality and achieving results, high level of integrity
  • Experience with CRM platforms a plus
  • Technical competency to interpret customer's needs and identify solutions
  • Experience in presenting technical materials in written and verbal form is critical
  • Strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
  • Must be self-starter, with an entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability to evolve in this position as the company continues to expand
