NIS launched in 2007 to provide imaging services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nanotechnology communities. We have since built a client-focused organization with a reputation for expertise, reliability and collaboration.   NIS is committed to expanding our service capacity through microscope acquisition, workflow automation, recruitment and training of top talent, and the development of new service offerings. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a range of electron microscopes, sample preparation equipment and computational infrastructure to support structural biology, nanoparticle characterization and chemistry workflows. With recent acquisitions, NIS has become the largest and most comprehensive provider of TEM, cryoEM and microED services to the industrial life science market.

Clint Potter

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

For more than 20 years, Clint Potter has focused on advancing electron microscopy methods for cryo electron microscopy through automation. In collaboration with Bridget Carragher, he has held academic appointments at The Scripps Research Institute and the New York Structural Biology Center. Together with Bridget, he founded NanoImaging Services in 2007.

Chief Technology Officer & Founder

For almost her entire career Bridget Carragher has been involved in the development of streamlined and automated methods for EM aimed at improving both the quality of EM data as well as the accessibility of the techniques to the wider biological community.  She worked in a variety of positions, both in industry and academia before moving to the Scripps Research Institute in 2001.  In 2007 Bridget co-founded NanoImaging Services, Inc., whose goal is to provide cryoEM and other microscopy services to the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. In 2015 Bridget and Clint moved their academic lab from The Scripps Research Institute to the New York Structural Biology Center where they serve as Co-Directors of the Simons Electron Microscopy Center.

Anette Schneemann

Chief Scientific Officer & General Manager

Anette Schneemann joined NIS in 2014 following a distinguished career in virology. Previously she was an Associate Professor in the Cell and Molecular Biology Department at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in La Jolla, CA, and remains an adjunct faculty member there. While at TSRI, her laboratory focused on the structure-function analyses of virus particles.   This included studies of particle assembly, genome packaging, and development of virus-like particles as a vaccine platform for multivalent display of foreign antigens.  During her academic career, she extensively worked with structural biologists to determine high and low resolution structures of virus particles and proteins by X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy and electron tomography.

Anette received a PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed a  postdoctoral fellowship at UC-Irvine.

Chief Commercial Officer

Ben Schenker joined NIS in October 2019 to help implement a growth strategy that focuses on client success and aligning with the scientific philosophies of the founders. He has a track record of over 25 years successfully introducing new technologies and concepts that help overcome barriers in drug discovery research. “CryoEM has the potential to fundamentally change the pace of research and it is our goal to make it accessible and successful for everyone.”

Giovanna Scapin

Chief Scientist

Giovanna Scapin joined NIS in March 2020, after gaining extensive industrial experience in the field of protein structures and structure guided drug discovery at Merck & Co.  An accomplished crystallographer, in 2016 she joined, as embedded scientist, the New York Structural Biology Center – Simons Electron Microscopy Center, to learn cryoEM.  Upon her return to Merck in 2018 she played a pivotal role in establishing the new cryoEM facility within the Merck Research Laboratories and promoting the use of cryoEM for drug discovery. Giovanna received a BS in organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in X-ray protein crystallography from Padua university (Italy).
