NIS launched in 2007 to provide imaging services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nanotechnology communities. We have since built a client-focused organization with a reputation for expertise, reliability and collaboration.   NIS is committed to expanding our service capacity through microscope acquisition, workflow automation, recruitment and training of top talent, and the development of new service offerings. Our state-of-the-art facilities include a range of electron microscopes, sample preparation equipment and computational infrastructure to support structural biology, nanoparticle characterization and chemistry workflows. With recent acquisitions, NIS has become the largest and most comprehensive provider of TEM, cryoEM and microED services to the industrial life science market.


Amy Winslow

Chief Executive Officer

Amy Winslow joined NanoImaging Services in November 2021. She is an experienced life sciences executive who most recently served as President of BioPorto Diagnostics, and previously as President and CEO of Magellan Diagnostics. In both companies she led the development, launch and growth of novel diagnostic technologies designed to improve patient care. Prior to Magellan, Amy held a variety of marketing roles at C.R. Bard, Athena Diagnostics, and Primedica, a preclinical CRO that is now part of Charles River Labs. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Biology from Brown University.

Clint Potter

Chief Technology Officer & Founder

For more than 20 years, Clint Potter has focused on advancing electron microscopy methods for cryo electron microscopy through automation. In collaboration with Bridget Carragher, he has held academic appointments at The Scripps Research Institute and the New York Structural Biology Center. Together with Bridget, he founded NanoImaging Services in 2007.

Bridget Carragher

Chief Technology Officer & Founder

For almost her entire career Bridget Carragher has been involved in the development of streamlined and automated methods for EM aimed at improving both the quality of EM data as well as the accessibility of the techniques to the wider biological community.  She worked in a variety of positions, both in industry and academia before moving to the Scripps Research Institute in 2001.  In 2007 Bridget co-founded NanoImaging Services, Inc., whose goal is to provide cryoEM and other microscopy services to the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. In 2015 Bridget and Clint moved their academic lab from The Scripps Research Institute to the New York Structural Biology Center where they serve as Co-Directors of the Simons Electron Microscopy Center.

Giovanna Scapin

Chief Science Officer

Giovanna Scapin joined NIS in March 2020, after gaining extensive industrial experience in the field of protein structures and structure guided drug discovery at Merck & Co.  An accomplished crystallographer, in 2016 she joined, as embedded scientist, the New York Structural Biology Center – Simons Electron Microscopy Center, to learn cryoEM.  Upon her return to Merck in 2018 she played a pivotal role in establishing the new cryoEM facility within the Merck Research Laboratories and promoting the use of cryoEM for drug discovery. Giovanna received a BS in organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in X-ray protein crystallography from Padua university (Italy).

Ben Schenker

Chief Commercial Officer

Ben Schenker joined NIS in October 2019 to help implement a growth strategy that focuses on client success and aligning with the scientific philosophies of the founders. He has a track record of over 25 years successfully introducing new technologies and concepts that help overcome barriers in drug discovery research. “CryoEM has the potential to fundamentally change the pace of research and it is our goal to make it accessible and successful for everyone.”

Brian Conkle

Chief Operating Officer

Brian joined NIS in June of 2021, to keep the business performing at its peak while expanding operations and remaining highly responsive to meet client needs. He has extensive operational, commercial, and international management experience with Life Science companies including executive leadership roles covering the America’s, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

Jeff Speir

Senior Director of Research and Development

Jeff joined NIS in 2014 first as a Principal Scientist and later served as the Director of Operations for our San Diego Headquarters. He is an accomplished structural biologist with extensive experience in both X-ray crystallography and cryoEM. Currently overseeing science and operations, Jeff brings a rich background in management and innovation from his previous roles at the National Resource for Automation in Molecular Microscopy, The Scripps Research Institute and GeneFormatics, Inc.

Peter Glick


Peter is a life sciences investor and serial entrepreneur.  Most recently he has served as Chairman of Agilux Laboratories, Magellan Diagnostics and Dynex Technologies and also as General Partner at Ampersand Capital.  He has a BS in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and an MS from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
