About the Technology

NanoImaging Services has developed advances in specimen preparation, microscope control and automation, and data tracking to provide a tightly controlled and highly automated system for biological imaging using a transmission electron microscope.

Specimen Preparation

NanoImaging Services can prepare specimens in solution using negative stain and cryoTEM preservation methods. With CryoTEM, specimens are flash frozen and preserved in a thin sheet of glass-like (vitreous) ice. This method allows the specimen to be imaged in its native hydrated state.

Microscope Control and Automation
NanoImaging Services uses an automated software system to control the transmission electron microscope and acquire digital images.

This process allows statistically significant sample sizes to be collected and analyzed in a highly controlled manner, resulting in images that are more representative of the sample than traditional manual data collection methods.

Data Tracking and Delivery

Images and associated data are stored and tracked using a relational database. The images and data are immediately available to the customer on our secure Internet portal. The details of every sample and each image are tracked by the database and are available for long-term comparisons or verifications. The web based image portal facilitates communication and collaboration between groups working on the same project from various localities.
